TIPS TO PROTECT YOURSELF ONLINE

To help prevent online fraud or loss, make an effort to improve and change your online habits using the below tips:

#1. Two-factor authentication (2FA) - If you want to log in to an account, you need to verify your identity by signing in with the code sent to your registered mobile phone.

#2. Credit cards – When shopping online, use credit cards, not debit cards. This may help minimize the damage in the event of a compromised account. Also, you can sign up mobile banking for receiving monthly notification of your transaction.

#3. Refrain from connecting directly your personal account such as Facebook or Gmail to sign up to other sites or apps. Once you connected, it’s mean you allow these third-party sites or apps using data in your account.

#4. Set strong passwords with at least eight characters in length and a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters, and make a point to change them on a regular basis. Also, you better create different passwords for every account to prevent from being stolen all account by using same password.

#5. Personal information Lock down your privacy settings and avoid posting information like birthdays, addresses, pet names, etc. because Cybercriminals can use any information you share online to figure out your passwords and security question answers in the password reset tools.

#6. Avoid suspicious links - Don’t click odd social media messages with links or urgent alerts about packages unless you first verify the authenticity of the message. If you receive an online message you believe is suspicious, verify it with the sender by calling them or talking in person before taking any action.
